A Project to Bring Water In North Gujarat

The Region

The region is located in North Gujarat where the districts of Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Sabarkantha come together.  The major affected city is Satlasana and there are a number of smaller cities and villages in the surrounding area.  Near Satlaasana, there is a hill and on top of that hill is a large empty lake called Varsung Talav.  To the east of Varsung Talav the elevation falls.  Going east brings one to Dharoi Reservoir, a large body of water.

The Water Opportunity

Currently no water from the Dharoi Reservoir reaches the Satlasana region.  The Varsung Talav is also sitting unused.  If water can be pumped to fill Varsung Talav, it can be distributed to surrounding cities and villages at lower elevations.  See the satellite image showing these landmarks from Google Earth.

Objective

The objective is to raise the necessary funds through private donations, obtain the balance of the cost from the Indian Central Government, and build a pipeline and pump system that will bring water from Dharoi Reservoir to Varsung Talav.

90% of the funds will be provided by the Indian Central Government if 10% is provided by private parties.  The estimated project cost is Rs. 30 crore.  Therefore there is a need to raise Rs. 3 crore from private donations.
